wow sorry i hate answering my own kestion -especially on a forum- but a litlle hour searching on google and youtube found me this :
http://verrytechnica...graphics-cards/

excellent way to do it... it only mod the actual bios of your video card.

also according to this guy
http://www.overclock...comparison.html

shader unlock doesnt give much more performance in the tested games
better and safe way is to o/c to 6970 clocks

interesting feature though. Great find.
If I had a ATI card I'd test it. I wonder if you gain F@H speed though...

And I'd love that feature for the nVidia GT400 and GT410 series. I have to overclock everything or F@H. It's kinda annoying. I'd love and prefer it if it was possible to overclock only the shader...

Some of the card which you try and unlock have been laser cut to stop you unlocking them. So you need to do some googling for your card and model and manufacturer date to check.

beare chnages like this invalidate the warrenty so as always it's at your own risk.

many of the MSI 6950's (forzers) were cut from spring.

^_^ that's why I didn't do it, Larry. Too much of an effort for too little gain...

The only cards with custom coolers that are able to unlock are MSI's Twin Frozrs, (the TF3 has its own unlocking tool somewhere) but like said above, they have been getting cut since spring. The new Saphire toxic card comes with a 6970 BIOS already installed, its not guaranteed, but its your best bet unless you find an old stock 6950.

To be the frank tthe difference between a 6950 stock and 6970 stock isn't that much anyway so don;t blow your card up or screw the warrenty for a extra 5-10%. 28nm is out soon if you need more speed be ready to buy a 7970 later this year. If you don't mess with your 6950 it's worth more when you resell it.
