At the moment, i have this crappy SSD (PQI) 120GB. would it be worth getting a Velociraptor nowadays since SSD's are out? I have never had one before but this SSD i have is just pure bad. only about 170MBps Read speeds and 100MBps write. speeds. My OS is running on that SSD. which i am not happy with as it seems like its just getting slower for some reason. I am going to get a Patriot Wildfire 120GB soon but a velociraptor on eBay is going for 40$. Should i take it, or leave it?

leave it, even a slow SSD is faster than HDDs i'd assume.

The advantage of larger velociraptors is the ability to have a large amount of data stored at a decent speed. That way ALL your games could run at a moderate pace. With games like RAGE using 25GB, a 120GB SSD might only be able to hold 4-5 games. That being said more info is necessary to determine which Velo it is.

On the left is a pair of G2 SSDs in RAID0, which holds my OS and essential files. The right side is a pair of 300 GB VelociRaptors in RAID0 that serve as my main storage, especially the games that aren't Steam loaded.
Since we're most concerned with read speeds when loading the game, textures, etc., you can decide for yourself if the VelociRaptor would be better suited in a Main Role or as a Supporting Cast Member...

I am with Jaffa on this one. It wouldnt matter if the are 10K VelociRaptors or the 15K ones. A decent SSD is gonna be faster.
When thinking about bottlenecks in ones system, they most often wouldnt consider the HDD as such. But a good SSD has shown otherwise, many people just refuse to accept it sadly.

Don't forget about the fact that an SSD have virtually no seek time: there is no physical element that needs to be moved to a precise position to start reading...
That is where the SSD is awesome: you can read multiple files located at different locations way faster than the HDD can: resulting in way faster performances.
Btw Jafa's SSDs are really slow compared to what you can get nowadays: most new SSDs are maxing out the SATA 2 interface with more than 260MB/s Read AND Write therefore are way better than most high end HDDs

And do pay attention to a user's screen name if you decide to reference it...
