Therefore, if changes cannot be applied directly to the storage device, it is either a motherboard limitation via SATA (AHCI/IDE), or specific external controllers that limit bandwidth across non-identical drives. If you come across this scenario, odds are you have reached a limitation outside of the capabilities of the device/mainboard.

So you are saying that on certain motherboards/devices the benefit of the read/write speeds of ssd can not be achieved using the HDD as a storage?! Is my understanding correct?
I'll just do a fresh OS installation and follow the step 4 and step 5 and i really hope that everything will work like it should. I'll keep you updating as soon as i manage to reinstall win and try step 4 and 5 out. Thanks a lot for your help Chears

hello felias
As i said, i did a complete reinstallation of windows and followed the instructions above (4 and 5) but unfortunalety nothing changed, so in my case when i install or copy programs on PC Games folder i don't benefit from read/writes of my ssd, just everything is getting really slow on loading. I tested BF3 on ssd and on PC Games folder and the difference is like day and night on loading time. I don't know if the problems lias on my sata connection cause i use sata nr2 for ssd and sata nr3 for hdd cause the first sata connection is blocket from my graphics cards i doubt that this could be my issue but who knows everything is possible?! It makes sense to mention that my drives are runing on sata2 not sata3. Is it possible to solve this issue by buying a sata 3 controller and use it on pci express slot? I have seen some on the internet and these controller are not very expensive i could afford one what do you think hooks? thnx Chears

Sorry for the late response, I really need to monitor threads more carefully.

Question: When you attempt to load a game from the PC Games folder are you seeing a constant color tone on the HDD activity indicator? I believe you may have either aligned incorrectly the source drive of the OS, and the data storage area located on the HDD partition (PC Games). Also, when you assigned the HDD/PC Games did you occupy the entire partition space on the format?

If I have the answer to these I can better isolate the issue.

Again, I apologize for the late response. I am all over the internet these days, and my work schedule outside of that has been quite full.

EDIT: As soon as I get a response I will be on the job for you.

Thnx for the response mate. So, i haven't wired the hdd activity indicator with my case so i cant see when hdds are working but when i load a game from PC games folder i can hear my hdd working and load speeds are very slow. when i asseigned hdd/pc games i didn't occupied the entire space only the half of it!!
If you wish i could give you full control on my computer with Teamviewer and see for yourself if i have configured everything correctly. Just tell me when you have time i would really apriciate it if you could find a couple of minutes to help me:). I bought an 64gb ssd and the space is really very limited. I have stored only two games and the ssd is full can't install nothing on it ):.

hey hooks. I've been thinking what would happen if i change in the bios from AHCI mode to RAID, reinstall windows and redo your tutorial again from the start?! (just want to mention that i have only one ssd not two).
OMG this is getting interesting loll ;) I'm really curious to see if i can manage to make this happen achieving my ssd read/write speeds while using HDD storage :))))), but without your help grrrr i feel that i can't do it!!!

You cannot establish RAID with non-identical drives. I am pressed for time this evening, but I will answer more thoroughly tomorrow. In the meantime do not change anything.

Samsung MCX 3-Core Controller

I am in the process of discussion on another forum about this controller. I believe it is a category similar to Marvell, and operates differently under instruction than Sandforce.

When I have clarification I can move on as the controller being a culprit. It may also be a mainboard limitation as seen with the Assassin 2, as I posted previously in this thread.

I will be in touch later this afternoon.

Hooks is a legend for doing this article int he first place imo i wanted to do it so many time's but talked myself out of it, With other hardware coming tot he table now pritty much doing what hooks has done himself in maybe a more easyer way of doing it crucial have released an ssd just for cache http://www.overclock...rodid=HD-017-CR which can be added to an existing os install the software and wolla which for me is appealing but if i'm honest is is still a big a chunk of change just for this at £84 hope to see a review of it soon.

IIRC OCZ and Crucial are using a large portion of Hooks' work for their chaching systems.

Yup - hence he has taken a bit of a dislike to them... should have copywrited that method before telling us lol

We still know the truth though - Hook's idea :)

There is still legal recourse without a copyright. He made it, and he can sue them for stealing it --TBH it's a crime.

Now, since it was a crime commited by a corporation he will actually file a tort in civil court since it's all but impossible to hold a corporation criminally accountable--American legal paradox for the fail!
