1: What is your budget?
2: What is the PC for? (Gaming, F@H, Server, etc.)

Edit:
Corsair Airflow Pro is a waste of money.

the idea is a work hard & play hard PC. im going for a degree in digital media adobe master. and it requires powerful PC. as for a budget i haven't really set one so far, but i live on disability and ill be buying 1 piece at a time. AMD & ATI are budget minded power in general i figure. i been looking at the ASUS EAH6970 in cross fire mode. but having hard time finding reviews for it. i figure i have couple years to complete it will be a long build to say the least. December im buying the case, then the mobo, then the cpu, and ect. im not sure what kind of good monitors are out there. i do like the Samsung MD230X3, just dont like the price. if anyone knows a better triple setup u make me a happy girl.

Edit: the ASUS VE278Q seams like a decent monitor and has display port

i have 6950 crossfire it works well but how about waiting for next gen video card?
and if you do encoding i heard intel cpus goes pretty better for that kind of work.

and why not look at that cuda thing from nvidia... boost up the workload on thses cards

agree with derbi ;) the intel cpu will last u longer and will perform faster, better and ofcourse cheaper :) there is something wrong with amd these days they can't cope with intel 1155 socket even the motherboards are priced same as am3+!!!

Alice the biggest issue you face is buying all this hardware over the course of a long time. So newer hardware will be released along the way. So it becomes hard to say whats the best bang for your buck, because thats gonna change over time.

Intel does have much better cpus for doing the kind of stuff you wish to do.

I wish you luck with this but I am certain you will go through some growing pains as hardware is released and change your mind several more times before you have bought all this.

the only problem i find with Intel is it is 2x to 3x more expensive then AMD. also a 5970 is like $300 compared to a decent 580 at $500+. i live on full disability & cost is a major influence to going Bulldozer. Bulldozer is $275 for a 3.6ghz while the Intel equivalent is over $1,000 easily. the first parts im getting are like my case, psu, optical, add, etc.

Edit: what ssd would be a good size for boot drive im thinking a corsair gt 60gb to 120gb but like advice. only thing ill use it for is the os, but know windows 8 is in develoupment so not sure how big to get.

interesting, the ASUS Maximus IV Extreme P67 would be nice but its not crosfire also the limited cores. i don't plan to do any overclocking becase i really dont know how. just wanting out the box power, maybe one day i will over clock but for now want out the box power. just seams the p67 boards are nvidia and i want a radeon build.

edit 1: i wish i could afford to do a lga 2011 system but that is killer cost

edit 2: how good would the EVGA P67 FTW w/ EVGauge and ECP V4 do for me???

Edit 3: do u think id be beter off doing a build with a EVGA P67 FTW w/ EVGauge and ECP V4 & single EVGA GeForce GTX 580 Classified 3072MB???

to save some money get the Asrock Z68 Extreme3, its a great board for a great price.

http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813157271

it supports both crossfire and SLi and overclocks well too.

I know it'd be a pain, but what about saving?? - You won't be able to use the new CPU / motherboard until they are both bought and if you aren't going to canibalise an existing PC, then you'll be waiting longer to get it up and running. How about save for a few months until you have enough to get more parts at once - then check the market at that time??

i like the evga board because my existing evga p55 ftw board been really good. i saw its crossfire compatible too, just not advertised

edit 1: well first stuff is a new case cooler n stuff like that from from corsair.

edit 2: also want to mention my other pc case is atx only can over heat if oc, has dual 280s and slow ram. not much i can salvage really. but working on a parts wishlist i can show u

edit 3: here is the wish list - http://secure.newegg...Number=16282932

how to overclock a Sandybridge system:

1. Buy a SB asus motherboard (any one will do).
2. Boot up and hit bios key
3. Use the mouse to click on "High performance"

Congrats you have your SB cpu running at 4.3-4.5 Ghz

I agree with the above comments the 2500k is cheaper and better. SB is really good value for money - over the lat month i've been litterally watching the prices drop.

omg this is so confusing. maybe i should jut get a new case and gpus on my existing evga p55 ftw 200 pc. id love your option extrema grandpa on just upgrading my existing sytem

Edit 1: looking more at my stem all it needs is new ram and better gpu's, so upgrading probably my best option i think.

Being on a lower budget, I would suggest you to put a "money jar" somewhere and put money in it till you have enough money to buy the complete system (or a working system: CPU, Mobo, RAM, PSU, Case, Monitor, one graphic card, ...): the only thing that is going to happen if you buy one component at a time is look the prices of the items you already bought drop while they are standing there doing nothing much...and pay more shipping...

Actually: what's wrong with your i7 860 rig: that's even better than the AMD bulldozer cpu... http://www.anandtech....40.41.42.43.46

Plus, the GTX 280s are not that bad

You can go on the moon with this!

Edit: Throw an SSD in there and all of your problems will be solved!

It requires an 8800gt your two 280s will be fine. Maybe optimise the settings a little but not much.
