But buying an I5 2500k when she has an I7 870? really?
If money was no object and she felt like getting, say, an EVGA SR2 with dual hex cored xeons (or whatever that crazy thing is !) then fine. But adding like ten FPS to a game that can already give you 80, or knocking four seconds off encoding a video?
I just think the money would be better spent elsewhere is all. As I am sure would her brother, who seemed to like a GPU or four.

She already has the custom case Darth Bevis did for the he brothers memorial give away. But yea if that is in fact her current specs then i agree why upgrade at this time. But last I knew of she was running older hardware.
