It currently looks like this however without the firewall I want to implement.

I'm a network n00b so I just wanted to check that the firewall will work ok or if something will screw it up.
I was trying to install ClearOS however it was missing an important .rpm so I gave up.
I downloaded 2 versions and both MD5 checksums came up invalid.
I guess it would be best if I changed the E3000 into a network switch and changed the netcomm thing to a proper modem with a small switch/hub that has the 2 cables coming out of it.
It might end up being a pain trying to disable everything in the E3000 so the linux machine can take over...
So yeah any advice would be great. If I have to buy something then I will. Oh and if you know a good firewall/gateway type distro then please tell me :)

Thanks

Pfsense is a great firewall distro. Ipcop is a little old now.

The e3000 might be able to have everything disabled but if you have a bit of cash then a proper switch and a simple access point like an airport express will be an easier solution.

You'll also have to remember to forward everything from the modem to the firewall. Sometimes you can disable everything and run it as a bridge. This will enable you to do all the proper natting on the firewall.

Pfsense is the one Challenger pointed me towards... it's really easy to setup and use :)
