hey guys. I want to buy an SSD. I searched a lot this week but can't decide wich one to buy.I thought this one would make sense:http://www.arlt.com/...25SAT3-60G.html or this http://www.arlt.com/.../GB-arlt-2.htmlit can do 500mb read speed. I'm running a raid 0 mechanical hdds at the moment on a sata 2 am2+ motherboard and i'm getting on crystaldiskmark 3.0 http://img684.images...marktesttwo.png and on atto http://img849.images...48/attotest.png. For me is important read speed, winboot games loading etc etc i don't care a lot about the write speed . The second question i want your opinions weather is a nessecery for me to upgrade to ssd or not in my case? Would i notice improvements on winboot games and general computer work? If i definitely buy one, i'd need a 60 GB one i don't want to spend more then 100-120€ for more storage so pls don't recommend me a 100-120GB ssd!!
I'll be buying from here http://www.arlt.com/...CEA6C9EFDA3AC.8 and here http://www.ipcstore....=3&show=50&man=
Your recommendations are welcome. Thank you guys )

Well, I would definitely recommend the OCZ Vertex 3 that you've suggested; I've owned an OCZ Vertex 2e 120gb for almost a year and a half now, and windows/games still load up as fast as they did when I got it :)

The newer 500MB RW drives are a tad faster than the older 250 RW drives. You may notice a few second knocked off winboot and game level loads the real benefit they bring is for Apps or Games that dtream data with much higher IOPS speeds which can have a massive impact for database 3d art video editing just creating thumbnails for massive photo folders etc.

So check reviews for the real IOPS rates (headline advertised rates often don't match) and expect general realworld speed from most HDD's to be 30-55 MB per sec to Gen 2 SSD to be 100-150 to Gen 3 SSD to be 200-300. In Raid or by using PCIE SSD (OCZ revo etc) you hit 300-450 MB RW with the latest drives in real world general usage so they are fast.

As alsways having raid anything for the OS carries a small risk unless your diligent with backups. So using a G3 drive just for OS and then another just for games and apps is sfaer and the OS drive can shoulder the wear and tear. I use 60-120GB drive just for OS and then larger more expensive drives for games and apps. that way I regard the OS drive as a throw away device it should fail long before the the more expensive large drive system.

Isaac: Thnx for the fast reply! thats what i was thinking grabbing one vertex 3 cause accordings to benches it seems the fastest one but everyone is making a 120gb version benches i couldn't finde a 60gb version of vertex 3 bieng tested, i really find it a bit strange?!!

dirtylarry: thnx for the reply mate:) i have another question though:) How much performance do i lose on sata2 vs sata3 with the vertex 3? i don't expect from u to give me the right numbers just in general what i've seen i don't see much of a deacrese in performance vs sata 3 atm am i wrong? thnx in advance

I've run my Vertex 3 on SATA II and III.

CrystalDisk gave me about an 80MB/s increase in one of the sequential tests (i forget which) - but then again the Rampage III Extreme Sata 3 controller is junk.

WEI goes from 7.8 to 7.9 with the change also.

You lose a little bit, but not enough to say buy a older SSD vs the newer one. You notice more if they are in raid TBH.

So don't forget the benchmarks etc are all slighty phoney have been for years the key is the general RW speed and iops vs cost and Size so you want to have 500RW headline numbers and 80K iops + But in reality in real world use you'll get half that most fo the time. Hence some of the drivers that may be 20-30% but offer only 5-10% better R_W speed or iops may not be worth it.

If you want speed and no raid issues -sata 2-3 issue then the PCIE SSD cards are great but with a price tag! (but do get you round raid-trim-sata 2 issues) but you Lose 1x 4x PCIE slot.

For most users size is the killer feature so a 60GB-120GB for apps and OS and 120GB-512GB for games is what you want. As long as it's a SSD and made in last 2 years it's already 'silly' fast.

ahh tbh i don't aim to do raid 0 anyways when i'll purchase the new ssd, so i thought when i'll upgrade to sata3 i could spend on another 60gb one to raid them and achieve an insanly 1000RW speed and 120gb double storage ;) so yeahh it dosent make sense to raid on my current sata 2 as u said :).

Raptor: Thnx alot for your info mate i really apriciate it ;)

hey guys . Just a little update. i Bought the 60gb samsung 830 ssd http://samsung.de/de...DEU/detail.aspx wich i'll be using it on my am2+ board with sata 2. I wanted to buy the corsair gt series or the vertex 3 but the seller changed my mind by saying that Samsung is better then vertex 3 and corsair gt and he strongly recommended the samsung one, so i believed him but i can't test the full potential of the ssd cause of the sata3 lack and "old" board that i have right now. I'm pretty much impressed for the boot time (only 12sec after installing almost all my regular apps) and how my overrall computer reacts when i load my games or open browser etc etc. So what do you think guys? did i made the right choice? if someone wants i could post some atto, hd tune or crystaldiskmark benchmarks to compare results with someone in here . I have seen some sata 3 controllers on the internet. They seem to cost not much but idk if its worth buying a pci express sata3 controller to use my new ssd?!
