I recently got a second GTX 275 which I have added to my system and since installing it I can't access the BIOS. The computer boots up fine but skips all the usual motherboard logo and that code stuff and goes straight to windows login. I have no idea why or how this is happening short of that it is somehow related to the new VGA. Also on a side note there is a PCI slot next to the PCIe slot the card is in that sits higher and prevents the card from sitting in fully although it still works fine. Oh and one more thing I think it's a 8x slot, is that too much worse than 16x? That is all, I would greatly appreciate help. Thanks

OH yeah I meant to ask can the PCI slot be removed somehow?

If the card works then don't worry about the PCI slot.
If you really hate it then get a soldering iron and take it out at your own risk.
You shouldn't be worried about x8 on the 2nd card or on both cards if it's just normal gaming and whatever.
Can you spam the "ENTER BIOS" key from the moment it starts up and see if it goes into the BIOS?
If that doesn't work try resetting the CMOS with the provided button, jumper or the old fashioned battery removal.

Good Luck.

I had that before due to a short circuit between the MB and the case. My keyboard wouldn't work. Removing the I/O shield helped in my case.
Maybe you're second card short circuits to the case somehow. Do you have another slot you could test your new setup with?

I do but it's right next to the other card and my temps are bad as is. However I will attempt that if the CMOS reset doesn't work. Thanks

Did you by chance change the dvi port you are using for your monitor ? Even if you didnt I have seen Mobos change dvi assignment in the past so try all the ports one at a time to see if the bios will show on any of them. Usually when you get no picture until windows login then its because you are not using the same port the PC has assigned to # 1.

I used to have a MSI mobo the when it only had a single card in it had to be in the top most slot. If you had 2 way sli you had to plug into the bottom card. If you had 3 way sli it was the middle one. There are a few quirky mobos on the market what one do you have ?

Oh wow that sounds like it, where would I be without forums. I have an MSI x58 Pro-E board and I have changed the DVI port because I had to to get SLI to work. Do you know how to fix this? Thanks

I take it mate that you installed the second GPU right next to the first one.

Top closest to CPU going down

PCIE1

PCIE2

PCIE3

trying placing your GPUs into slots 1 and 3 and see if you are able to get SLI like that. If so will help right much with heat. As for what port is active for bios it will take some trial and error by shutting off the machine and rebooting trying each DVI port individually. Also a small question to rule other things out, when you try and enter the bios by spamming the delete key does it still enter windows ?

ok I say a big no-go to unsoldering the pci-e slot: if you ever soldered electronic components you would understand: it's a pain and the result might short circuit the mobo more than anything...

Have you looked in the pci-e slot to see if the connectors on each side are touching in some places? This might also be the cause of a short circuit...

Right I just changed the DVI port which previously didn't allow SLI to work but now it does and the computer boots up normally. So it is strange but works. Thanks for all the help fellas
