The latency of the PCI-e bus has been the single most-vocalized limitation to GPGPC HPC - like feeding a CRAY with a VelociRaptor. Intel became more serious about moving the bus to version 3 after deciding to turn their MIC from graphics to an MIC HPC unit.

Gor!
Just received NewEgg's "Damage Assessment" on the MOBO RMA.
Customer damage to the socket pins.
So I guess I'm eating a brand-new MOBO. Anyone have some A-1 Sauce laying about?...

Right now I just wanna get a rig up n' running. I need to do much more than just keep up on the Net, and even some of my work is suffering after such a lengthy hiatus.
One project that's currently at a standstill is the rebuild of a hydraulic flight simulator. The original control electronics were totally wrecked although I got the mechanics to a fully functional state. I'm going to tie it to a PC MOBO with the aim of using off-the-shelf software along the lines of FS-X as a customer is interested in practicing his IFR. That'll also give me the option (which I'd rather go for) of installing three screens for VFR-type visuals (can you say Surround?) should his interest prove merely casual. I had just starting laying out the motor control interface PCB when the Lynnfield crapped.
Dunno about y'all, but I hate designing and routing PCBs by hand...

Grab an ASRock Ex11 in April. It's going to be godlike!

That EX11 is definitely a killer board, and the color scheme's not bad. Not sure if I need quite that much I/O just yet. but I certainly wouldn't be limited to 2-disk RAIDs with an EX11 as an option...
